"Hi all. Just adjusted my Hitachi pots.

Multimeter set at 20K

Orig pot for DVD = 3.47
Adjusted DVD to 3.05 "

That is the exact guide I used to adjust my hitachi DVD pot to 3.05. Success!
Will release more info on how good or bad my laser gets after a few more plays on backups and success boot rates etc...

Just did this,

Starting resistance: 4.21K
 -> First Failure: 3.80K
    -> Second Failure: 3.08K

So this was a no go for me,
Using NEC3520A Burner, ridata media.

These are proper backups, Merged the SS myself, and they work on the samsung.

Running Hitachi 47D with C4E FW version 1.
All flash sectors DONE.
Used TS drive with xtrm0800.bin to make my backups.
Used Verbatim DL 2.4 x burn with Pioneer 110D flashed with FW 1.39.

JAP x360 is FULLY SLUTTY!!!! I only have to cold boot.(No flicking HDTV swith or any other delay trick.)
Takes about 10 seconds longer than booting ORIG disc. I would say this is xlent cos it is boot 14/14 backups I have now + played a few of then for a couple hours each.
Only time wil tell me the durability. POT SETTING is 3.05.
Cheers C4E!!!

with media burned successfully i get a 100% strike rate and quicker than the orig media on a jap x360

EDIT:

without the need for pot tweaking,

NOTE:

i have seen many consoles where people have engaged in pot tweaking, it kills lasers

I to have been able to get 100% working backups without tweaking my hitachi. Pioneer Drives (like miine :D) seem to have much more success. I dont think anyone has got an NEC burn to work (might be wrong so dont flame)

EDIT: I have flashed my 108 with Piodata firmware, not sure if it will make any difference but just thort id share it

actually no. the pioneer backups would not work, used hlds and tsst drives.

on PaPo's note i have to agree, pot tweaking is a very bad idea, where i work i have seen litterally 100's of PS2's that have died from this very act, and dont say its just because its a PS2, a laser is a laser no matter what device its in, the dynamics dont change just because person a makes this one and person b makes the other one. lasers are tuned at the factory to work at their peak, and when you tweak the pot it starts working at an altered frequency...

on this note, if you have bricked your drive how much do you want for the remains of your console and drive.

My drive is fine... the current one is a Sammy, and the new one is Hitachi (but that arrives at the end of the week, i'm just reading up on stuff in preperation) :-)

If you don't take the tweaking to an extreme then you should be fine. don't go <3.0 and don't lower it by more than 1.

dont bother pot tweaking its a waste of time, if your in the uk just go here and buy a pioneer
http://svp.co.uk/products-list.php?cid=86&PHPSESSID=8e90be7f85c0e6a6a923531691be7c05
Thats all you need and it is only 22 and even the verb media is 15.39 for 10.cheap as chips.Even the ridisc ones work for me on the new drive.
