I flashed my 47DH with sil3112 sata chipset.
Onboard SATA on Abit NF7-S
It is currently booting backups so I know it worked perfectly.
The bios does not recognize the drive but slax unlocks it fine and windows detects it and is willing to flash it fine with the drive tray out.

Hitachi 46D worked fine with a SATA PCI card that was silicon based. I couldn't get it to work with my A7N8X-E Deluxe onboard though. It would detect but where I have a SATA based HDD I Think it was trying to enter raid mode. Might try again when I get a smaller ATA drive setup to flash.

Sorry. I forgot to mention that Sil3112 was PCMCIA sata card, not PCI or onboard.
VT6421L was PCI sata card. When my Hitachi in mode-b XP loads until black screen with mouse pointer. Then hangs!

On this page:
http://www.alternate.nl/html/shop/searchListing4CSort.html?searchCriteria=sweex&cat1=024&cat2=054&cat3=000&

What card works, both are sil3112 chipset.

Sweex Serial ATA Controller or Sweex Serial ATA Controller + RAID ?

SiI3512 on a 47 works, but slax doesn't. I had to do cross-wire. I also had to flash the most recent bios to the card.

I wouldn't assume it's coming with the SiI3112 chipset. I thought mine was going to be, but it was a 3512. 3112 is still pictured on the box it came in.

Well I'll just open the box then before buying it, but what is the difference between the normal and raid controller, will both work for flashing the hitachi drive?

I'm not sure entirely, but I've heard of people having to disable RAID on their boards/cards to get it to work. So if you're just getting it to access the 360 ODD then you'll be better off with the cheaper one I spose.

In response to the question "what is the difference between the normal and raid controller". A raid controller would try to boot to two sata hard drives and run them in tandem rather than as a primary/secondary setup, they would both be seen as one drive(other raid configurations are possible) Therefore if you do not turn off raid in the bios it will try to boot to the 360's disk drive along with your hard drive and most likely hang or you would get a raid error message depending on the bios of your computer.

Does anybody know if the drive is compatible with the Intel ICH6 chipset?

I flashed my Hitachi with my Intel ICH6R chipset...no probs.  Couldn't use the slax CD, so I had to use the wire cross method, but once I got the drive into Mode B, the flashing process completed flawlessly.

Sweex SIL3112 PCI Card, slax CD works, drive gets into modeB.

But when I press reset at login: prompt, the computer wont boot from my IDE harddrive anymore, it says cant find boot device, but the harddisk is detected in bios and works fine. Also when I boot from floppy then and type C:\ it cant find the drive.

As soon as I turn the 360 off, the computer works perfect again, can someone please help me with this?

Update on my hacking adventures  Grin

Sweex SIL3112 PCI Card (non-RAID), slax CD works, drive gets into modeB.
Disconnect Sata cable from pci card and boot into windows, install drivers for non-raid from CDROM.
Now connect the sata cable to the pci card again and the drive will be detected.
Flashing works fine now Cheesy
