Pretty simple here.  My cover is shot.  Sometimes it will not allow the drive to eject and spindle+magnet makes a high pitch grinding noise .  I take the cover off replace it with another Lite-On cover and it works perfectly.

My problem is I cant use the one that is working.  Its from a good box.  Also tried a Benq drive cover and it does the same thing. Im sure its not the same as the Lite-on.

Ive looked for 3 days and for the life of me cannot find a bricked Lite-on for  sale or the cover itself.
Ive also tried the magnet fix to no avail.  Any tips or advice.  Thanks in advance.

The cover has no function (other than keep the magnet in position)
When a disc is inserted in the drive... the magnet must spin "free" in a position where is not touching nothing of the metal cover

Your problem is the magnet, and the metal around it, that keeps the magnet in position
Im not sure what can be the problem, maybe the magnet has been "des-magnetized" and is unable to "grab" the disc...
But i guess that the cover is deformed, and the magnet touches the metal when is spinning (this is easy to detect, because this produces a noise)

Edit:
Im not sure... but if i remember correctly... in the 360 dvd-drive there is no magnet in the cover
The magnet is in the spindle (motor)... and in the cover there is a metal "washer"
Maybe you have lost this "washer" (without it... the magnet is unable to grab the disc)
