Seems like this FW-hack is pretty useless since I haven't seen a single report of people running backups without a problem.

Can somebody please confirm if the 59 revision firmware reads burnt DL discs correctly.  Obviously you can't crack it yet for games, so try a Dual Layer DVD movie or something.

The inability of the 47 revision to read burnt DL discs in a stable fashion makes all this sour.  If the newer 59 revision fixes that, then there is hope to flash all 46 and 47 drives in the future with 59.  Let all prey to Allah or whatever.

I hope it is a mistake on commodore4eva's part, where perhaps it's reading the SS slightly off in a wrong sector or something.  Because then atleast there is hope for a fix from this great chap !

I think that problem is concernig a drive brand similar to gamecube backups problem due less power laser.   Only  Pioneer and Nec with ritek /ridata mini-dvd can delivery perfect backups to gamecube. Other drives cause several problems: donīt boot or DRE(disk read error).
I have read post this forum that Verbatin with pioneer work like a charm.  I have a pioneer dvr 109 and never lost any gamecube backup. Than i want know if who have pioneer or Nec with verbatim could report  sucess backups.

Update: other solution is raise the power of spot laser like gamecube. I think that there are any potentiometer in the PCB of Hitachi that do this Job.

OBS. Pioneer e Nec DVD line drivers have same chipsets

Chaps, i rekon i got an idea - problem may lay in following:

All SS were extracted on TS drives. And as Hitachi may have slightly different timing, SS'es from TS works only from time to time !
It is known, that certain types of challenge response is time critical. And sending raw commands to extract SS data returns slightly different results all time.

My though - NOT DL media is a culprit, SS.bin's made on TS943 Is.

Pros, please comment.

Sounds quite plausibel - good work.  Let's get cracking extracting SS from the Hitachi and burning the backups.  See if that makes all the difference !
